Cloth diapers?

Hey all, I was wondering what’s the best and/or affordable type of cloth diaper around. I’m doing some online shopping and don’t want to waste money on something that’s not worth it.

It really depends on you and your baby. I’ve found in my personal experience and from researching and talking to other people that buying a few different kinds is really the “best” I settled on OS pocket diapers for when she’s older and fitteds/AIO for when she’s smaller. I have like 3 different brands so far and plan on getting 12 more between 2 different brands next to complete my stash.

Flats and covers are really economical and easy to wash & quick to dry. You have to fold them so it’s not for everyone. I have a couple pockets for grandma to use since they are simpler. Definitely try a few different kinds and see what works for you. Some people wait until about 2 months to switch from disposables so you can skip buying separate newborn stuff and not have to deal with all the laundry during the early days with a new baby.

Try several different types and find what works for you. One size diapers don’t usually fit from newborn as they are just too bulky for a bit. We did flats and covers for the newborn stage, bought everything second hand and it was affordable. It also gave us time to try other things before filling out our stash with our favorite 
when she grew out of our newborn stuff. In the end, we found the easiest cloth diapering method for us is workhorse fitted diapers under wool shorts or leggings as clothes. We HATED pocket diapers, they were too much work for us. Wool and fitteds work great for both day and night and we’ve never had to use a disposable from birth. 
Wool is initially expensive, so are workhorses but if you care for them well, you can use them and sell them when you are done for close to what you invested in the first place. Our workhorses are on their 3rd kid, with the same size being worn for 1.5 years now with the current baby and they still have another baby worth of use at least.

I would go onto some buy/sell groups on Facebook and get a few different kinds before spending a lot on one kind. You can often get lots fairly cheap that way, too. Not all types fit every baby well (tall, skinny, short, chubby) or your life style. I have a lot of pockets, a few all in ones for nighttime, and a ton of prefolds with covers for when they are tiny. Keep in mind that pul shouldn’t go in the dryer because it can ruin the waterproof lining so you need to plan on extra drying time for all in ones.
