Always on the breast

Danyelle

So since my 8 week old was born, he cries everytime he's set down or held by anyone else. He also seems to only have two modes, on the boob or sleeping at the boob (other than bedtime, he's good at sleeping at night in his crib). He's the fussiest, angriest, hungriest baby. I'm a first time mom and he's the only baby I've held in my life.

Everytime we go to the pediatrician I tell them he's always at the breast. Their response is always "oh he's just cluster feeding" and I'm like "then he's been cluster feeding since the day he was born."

I go thru all my checklists. He's changed, burped/gassed, not too hot or cold, just always hungry, napped. I make sure he's actually eating and when he starts suckling for comfort I pull him off but he just starts throwing a tantrum til he's back on. Eats for a second and then suckles. Repeat. I've been to a lactation consultant and he gains enough weight (actually more than the average lol)

Is this a normal thing? Any thoughts on what I should do with him?
