29.11.18 labour which ended up being caesarean

Chelsea

Finally have time to tell you about my labour. Okay, so before I start I just want to explain about 2 weeks before I was due my midwife thought my baby girl was breach, which obvs would mean a caesarean I was petrified, I started crying, my anxiety was sky high, but she was fine, I had the can and she was engaged. I have mentioned this now and you will see why later on.

Wednesday 28th 9am I was booked in to be induced as I was 9 days over due date, so off we went, I was so so nervous for this as I had no idea what was going on or what to expect as she was my baby. We got to reception and was shown to the ward, midwife was lovely. Waited for a doctor to explain what was happening and then at 11am I was examined and then the pessarie was inserted. After this I walked around the hospital and bounced on a birthing ball. I was determined to get her out ASAP. Then the pain started! The pain I was having was horrendous but the midwife thought it was just pain from the pessarie and didn’t seem to concerned my partner was not convinced. I took some paracetamol but didn’t help so had a hot flannel and put that on my back, it eased slightly but nothing major. The pain was getting worse and worse but again midwife didn’t seem to concerned so she mentioned about me having a bath, so off we went. My partner came and sat with me, the pain was easier to deal with in the bath for the first half an hour but then it got worse so I got out, started walking around as no position was comfy, my waters broke!!! I walked back to the ward and was examined by a midwife I was 5cm! I was so please with myself as I wanted a natural birth and had got to that stage with just paracetamol! Well.... we then went into our own room.... the pain was getting worse so I tried gas and air as I was breathing through the contractions but I didn’t like it, I was just breathing through them naturally. It was now 3am - time goes so quick! I thought it would have seemed like I was there forever. I got examined again - I hadn’t dilated anymore :( so the doctor came round put me on a hormone drip and explained if In the next 4 hours I don’t dilate anymore it will be a caesarean. I took this very well considering. The pain was terrible so I had pethadin which I managed to sleep on. 4 hours later I got examined! Nothing had changed so caesarean it was, I couldn’t believe how well I took this as this was my worse fear but I kept calm I just wanted my baby out. 5 weeks later I’m fully recovered and starting to get the hang of being a mum 🌸🎀
