Periods on the PARAGARD IUD

I have had the ParaGard IUD since November and my first two periods were really heavy and I had extremely painful cramps —even before I actually started my period. For the entire week before my period (PMS week) I had awful cramps on and off. Then during my period they continued but worse. Will this eventually fade out with time? Will my periods get lighter and less cramps?
