Speech therapist????

Question

My 9 month old daughter doesn't say any words or sounds of words like ma, da, or ga. Just like hums. So my doctor said to take her to a speech therapist. Anyone else in the same boat or concerned?? First time mom so not really sure?! Thanks!! 💖💖

9 months can be bit young but no harm in seeing one for some time. My kids have done speech o.t. and p.t

9 months is so early. That seems extreme to do therapy that young.

Always provide a language enriched environment! Always labeling and talking about things in the environment and what she’s doing. Reading to her. Children learn language by what they hear. If she hasn’t by 12 months I would be more concerned. Each child is different but if there is a concern early intervention is helpful!

My daughter was in birth to 3 for about 7 months because at almost 2 she didn’t say anything.  It didn’t really work for us so we took her out but I know others who thought it was very helpful. She’s 2.5 now and still doesn’t say as much as they say she should but she’s catching up. Some kids just don’t talk right away

Just call early intervention and they can evaluate and set her up with speech therapy if they believe she is truly delayed.

My son will be 3 in April. He didn’t start walking until 1 1/2 and still isn’t really talking. He has speech therapy, occupational therapy and a feed specialist every week. We found that that he has Hypotonia (low muscle tone). So his jaw is very weak and he was refusing to eat anything crunchy. We are now able to get him to eat some crunchy foods to strengthen his jaw but with major distraction (playing with toys). This will help his speech. You need a strong jaw in order to pronounce words. 
Do some research on low muscle tone. It ties in with eating and speech. Keep an eye on it. She is still very young. Check and see if your state has early intervention. Florida has early steps, which my son is in. They evaluate your child, if they qualify, they send a therapist to your home to work with your child and it’s all paid by the state.
