Periods after miscarriage

I had a miscarriage 13th October 2018,

My first period after wasn’t so bad (pain wise) but the last two (December & January) have been horrendously painful, January being the worse one.

I had a natural miscarriage (no D&C), my periods are back to being regular.

Is it normal to get these horrible pains? I didn’t have them before, maybe a mild cramp. No need to take painkillers with the periods before I miscarried but now I have no choice as the pain is bringing me to tears.
