Good candidate for VBAC??

Hi ladies I’m currently pregnant due in August. I had a c section with my first child 4 years ago. The reason I had to have one was because I had stopped dilating (4cm) and Myself and baby started getting fever. Now that I’m pregnant again my dr does not do vbacs but there is a clinic I know of who does and I’m thinking of seeing them but I don’t know if having a vbac is something worth it?? I’m scared and would hate to risk hurting myself or baby. My question is for those who have had or tried for vbac what all do the drs do to determine your a candidate? Do they check your scar??etc??
