cramping on one side vs both? why do people say this?

So I keep reading its  ok to cramp one one side just not both sides. I was nervous about cramping and realized after reading this that it is only on one side my right. Why do people say this?
UPDATE: went to the doctor yesterday everything is in good shape babies heart beat is 155 and strong even cane through over  the belly with the Doppler! Which shocker the OB since I’m still kinda early 12 weeks! So she said some mild cramping is ok ! Thank you everyone!

They say it could be an ectopic pregnancy if you cramp on one side. Weird thing, when I was pregnant I only cramped on one side up until 10 weeks and it stopped and it was not an ectopic pregnancy
