How soon do I look for daycare?

36 weeks now, how soon did you all start interviewing in home nanny’s or daycare places? What kind of questions did you ask or what lessons did you learn that are important to consider?

Where I live you have to start looking the minute you find out you’re pregnant. Seriously a friend of mine is due in July and they can’t get into a daycare until July 2020 because the waiting list is so long! She said she’s not even being that picky on daycares. They are forced to get a nanny for the first year.

ASAP! I worked at one for 4 years so I managed to have a good in and as soon as I found out I put my name on the list.

Daycare’s you need to look right away.  I had my first son in a daycare but decided to make a change in October, some of the ones I called had 3 year wait lists.  Luckily we got a spot at one I really wanted. But I had to put my baby on a waitlist for the same one. He was born 1/11 and has been on the waitlist since October.  He’ll start in April.

The only reason this baby has a daycare is unfortunately the lady before me had a mc AND my daycare does a “family first” dealio. Before that mc, every daycare in my area had a 2 year wait list for infants. Small towns are ridiculous for waits

As soon as we knew we were expecting we signed our baby up for the daycare that my son goes to and a couple of others. 
It takes a good minute for slots to open up so it’s best to do it right when you find out

36 weeks and we might start looking soon, but not seeing the rush as I have no standing job to go back to and he's not in a rush to get me to start one since his job is a deployable position. Family is coming first right now.

I put my son on the waiting list at my daycare (I work there) when I was 16 weeks because we live in a SMALL town and I knew the waiting list was hell and I didn't want to be scrambling at the last minute searching for someone or begging for a spot.

I started late around 30 weeks and lucked out with a full-time daycare. They had someone move and it just happened to be the week I inquired. So I’d start ASAP. Another place I inquired doesn’t have a spot for 7 months. 
Definitely go visit the places that you’re interested in and meet the people who are going to be caring for your baby. Ask about visitation during the day, that was big for me so I can breastfeed on my lunch break. And honestly, ask anything and everything. You’re interviewing them, not the other way around.

I’m not personally looking for daycare (I’m a stay at home mom), but all of my friends who have needed daycare have started looking and getting deposits in by 20 weeks or sooner. I’d say at this point your best bet is to find an in home daycare or a nanny.
