I’m a 22 year old female full time student, living with a young single dad who has two kids (one is 11 and one is 5). He is nice and polite. However he only washes the dishes probably once a month or when his friends visit. I even got my own utensils and plates but he just keeps getting my spoons and doesn’t wash them after usage, while the kitchen drawers are full of HIS utensils and other kitchen wares. He also smokes weed a lot, even when his kids are around. He brings friends home at 2am and blasts rap/hiphop music like there’s no one around.

The reason why I can’t move out is because I’m a full time student that doesn’t have any stable jobs yet, and when I rented one of his bedrooms, it was a very good deal especially in the Bay Area. I get to have my own private bedroom, private bathroom, kitchen privilege and washer/dryer privilege, he doesn’t mind having overnight guests and has never complained a thing to me. I respect him very much but I wish he was more organized and clean. I don’t care what his bedroom looks like, I just need the “common areas” to stay clean at all time.

I’m not a person who likes to confront people and make them feel uncomfortable :( are there any effective ways that I can make my roommate understand without upsetting him? Thanks!
