Sleepy breastfeeding

How do y’all deal with lazy breastfeeding?? He just kind of hangs out on the boob without doing much active feeding most of the time. I try to tickle him, rub his chest, take off his cozy blanket, put a wet washcloth on his neck, etc to keep him awake - sometimes it works for like one split second but it’s hard to keep him awake for a whole breastfeeding session!

Now he’s 5 days old and losing more weight than expected, so the doctor said I have to wake him every 2 hours to feed. But after 2 hours he‘s not ready yet - he falls asleep at the boob and has a super lazy breastfeeding session!

They also say I have to supplement with breast milk in a bottle after “inefficient feeds” but it seems like he’s going to get spoiled and rely on the bottle instead of doing the work himself.

Gahhhhhh so frustrating. What has worked for you guys? And when did you stop having to wake up to feed? When were you able to stop supplementing?
