Breast milk to formula?

Question

I’m trying to wing my 1 month old off of breast milk because she has acid reflux and colic. I’ve tried the nuk just like moms nipples, different bottles, having someone else try to feed her, everything! How did you guys get your baby’s to switch to formula?

Breastfeeding is much better for colic and acid reflux babies. Both my daughters had acid reflux with my first having a severe case. I had to supplement with formula with my first, but I saw a huge difference in her reflux symptoms when she was breast fed versus formula fed. I tried different bottles and formulas too. Breast milk was definitely better for her.

Acid reflux and colic can be fixed by changing your diet if you want to keep breastfeeding. Those are both signs of a food intolerance, most likely dairy or soy. I’m on my second week dairy free and my daughter’s reflux is gone (without using medication). Just wanted to let you know in case you have a pediatrician who went straight to recommending formula and medicine, like most seem to do 🙂

The reason for me wanting to switch to formula is because I had to stop drinking and eating dairy since she was born I noticed that it was upsetting her stomach then she got acid reflux and colic and not sure what it is that’s messing with her stomach so cutting out more foods would be very hard for me I know hat makes me sound selfish but I’m 97 pounds and feel like a whole change in diet is the worse way to go. I know breast feeding is the best for her I love the bond but I feel like formula in the long run will be the best for her personally.

Have you tried colic drops? They help a lot. But the best baby bottle I used was NUK, when changing to the bottle. Ask your paediatrician which formula would be best. You get anti reflux milk formulas. I used the Nan nestle bran. But I’m in South Africa. I don’t know the brands where you live.

Is that what your doctor, pediatrcian, lactation consultant, or midwife is recommending? Or are you self-diagnosing?
Because colic and reflux are unusual reasons to switch from breast milk to formula, especially at only one month old. And unless your milk supply is drying up, I wouldnt suggest switching so early.
I think maybe you should read up on colic and reflux in relation with breastfeeding at kellymom.com. She is a lactation consultant and is a certified IBCLC.

Is she allergic to your milk? Are you wanting her to switch to or from breastfeeding? I’m confused as to why you believe switching to formula would help with colic or reflux if that’s the case.
