Second row: bench seat or captain chairs?

I have 3 kids in car seats. 2 forward facing and one infant. We’re trying to figure out which option to pick. We occasionally/rarely have an extra passenger. My two kids that are in ff seats still use the 5 point harness on their car seat. Vehicle we have in mind is either a Yukon xl or Suburban.

Captain chairs will allow your older kids to get in and out of the back seat much easier without having to move the middle row forward.

I have a Chevrolet Suburban with captain seats (we have 4 kids- 2 teens, a pre-teen and a 6 month old) and not only have it been amazing the the littles but it’s been plenty big for my teenagers and a a friend or two!

I have the Yukon  XL with Captains  chairs. I love  it, but Ill have 2  only in rear facing.  I would probably  put the 2 bigger  ones in the back and baby in the front with a captains chairs.... i think all 3 in one bench row would be annoying

I have captains seats in my new explorer.  It really doesn’t make a difference in this car because it is a pain to get to the third row period but it keeps the kids separated (when they are older and it matters lol)

Can someone please explain captain chairs? I’m pregnant with number 3 and we have a son who will turn three next month and a 17 month old daughter. We’re going to have to get a seven seater and I’m confused by what you are all saying. What’s a captain chair and which cars have those.

I’m hoping for captains chairs in my next vehicle. I’ll have four kids in seats whenever we change. I do not like the bench seat in my minivan.
