Valtrex in first trimester

This morning I woke up with a cold sore. My previous OB before I got pregnant prescribed it to me. I’ve been taking them every time I get a cold sore and instantly gone I love it. Abreva sucks it doesn’t work for me it makes the sore bigger. Anywho I’m 6 weeks pregnant and I was wondering if valtrex is safe specifically in first trimester. I don’t have genital and I understand they make you take it close to delivery to prevent outbreak if your further along but I want to know if it’s ok in first trimester. I don’t want to risk miscarriage or birth defects. Anyone taken this in FIRST TRIMESTER? and everything is fine?
