Sceptical about inducing?!?
So my husband and I had reservations about inducing early. I've been nervous to ask the doctor, but I finally expressed my feelings and he was so informative and understanding. I have an umbilical vein varix is pretty rare and there is literally no recent research or studies on it. He said when he was in school, and he's an older man now lol, that it was a standard of practice to recommend being induced at 37 weeks as a precaution. The studies that they do have show less than a 4% chance of something occurring...and even the cases where something happened, some were not even related to the umbilical vein varix. Mine is measuring 15mm thick and the average is 10mm. It hasn't changed in three weeks and he doesn't expect it to. We may induce next Friday at 38 weeks and 3 days, but probably won't. I'm just going weekly to the specialist and getting ultrasounds to check it. I feel super relieved and happy I said something. I'm not one to go against what the doctor says, so that was very hard for me. I asked him honestly what he thought, and if he thinks that I'm crazy and being unreasonable, to tell me. He was in agreeance (maybe that's not a word 😆) with us. I'm already 50% effaced, 3cm dilated, had a very light sweep, and lost my mucous plug.... so this baby may just come early on it's own. Just wanted to share my story :) It doesn't hurt to ask your doctor the uncomfortable questions!
