Buying gifts/gift baskets for your doc/midwife? After baby is born. To show gratitude.

When baby is born and you go back for your 6 week check up will you come bearing thank you gifts? Gift basket?

If you felt like they went above and beyond and you had a real connection with them. Otherwise no.

I’d go with no personally since I’ve never once delivered with the dr/midwife that I saw during my pregnancy. Unless your dr or midwife is on call when you’re in labor you might not see them but that could depend on the practice/hospital but for me it’s never worked out 🤷🏼‍♀️.

I don’t know, it feels weird to give someone a gift for simply doing their job. Maybe a thank you, or a thank you card is sufficient. Also, is there any ethical guideline to them accepting gifts? I know as a therapist, we have ethical guidelines. Though outside of various cultural settings, no one has ever tried to give me a gift just for doing my job. 😂

I’m going to bring something for the docs and nurses at my next appt because this is such a tough journey and they have been so incredible and so nice! I understand it’s their job, but I still want to show my utmost appreciation for everything they have done! EVERYONE wants to be appreciated!

If you are satisfied with the care, a card, flowers or box of chocolates could do where I live. It’s not necessary and usually done only when you felt the attitude. Very personal.

Baking my midwife yummy banana bread. Don't really have money to spend to get her something, and it is her job..  already paying her a lot lol. But thought the gesture of baking something would be nice.

Yes, our OB has dissipated the extreme anxiety I had around medical professionals and appointments following a horrible experience with a male surgeon a few years ago, so we are very thankful for that. In conversation he has mentioned enjoying a glass of wine so we’ll get him a flash bottle of red and something to go with it. 
As a shift worker myself I know how appreciated chocolates and sweets are especially for night shift so we’ll buy a small assortment for the midwives 😊
