To or not to?

My two month old has an appt for his check up Monday. And I literally am DREADING IT! I am so so worried about the vaccines. Do I do them or no, if I do, which ones? Should I delay them? So many questions! I have ALWAYS been pro vax. As a nurse, I really understand the benefits of them... when they go right. But my gut is just screaming at me the last few days. And then I look at my sweet sweet baby, and I just want to cry! I don’t want to hurt my baby by not getting him the vaccines. But what if he’s one of the 1 in (whatever number) affected by a vaccine?! I just would live with the guilt forever but more importantly, my son would live with the side effects 😭 I hate this decision. I have been researching now for a couple days and I’m just still torn... Any insight please would be appreciated. Also, this is not a post I will accept any arguing on so please be appropriate with your comments.

Please get the vaccines. The risk of baby getting pertussis or rotavirus or any other illnesses that vaccines prevent is much worse than ANY risk of vaccines. You have a healthy baby. Keep them that way with vaccines...

Well, we caught HIB. Something that babies are vaccinated for at 2 months old. After watching my baby turn blue for 3 days, not wake up they finely discovered it was HIB. He had to be intubated, had to have a spinal tap to see if he had meningitis from it. 85% of HIB turns into meningitis. Of that 80% will die from it or becomes severely mentally handicapped. We where lucky, my baby was only septic. For 32 days I watched my son have to bagged 7 times a day because dispute being on a vent he would crash. Watching him be stabbed 3 or 4 times a day with IVs because babies veins go bad very quickly. You have a chance to protect your baby before this happens. There is a vaccine that will prevent this. I can't imagine how I would have felt standing next to my potentially dying son knowing I could have prevented this. I still hate myself for him catching this. I still an mad at whoever sneezed on him. I feel sick about this. What if this was your 3 month old laying here and you knew that you stopped him from getting the vaccine. Don't do that to yourself, don't do that to your innocent perfect baby.

I think a few seconds of upset with your little one outweighs the pain if they were to catch one of the diseases they vaccinate against.
My daughter had her first vaccinations on Wednesday, she cried for a minute or two then I put her in her pram and she fell asleep: barely bothered by it 😊

Don’t worry. It’s so quick and the chance of anything happening is sooo low. Keep baby Tylenol at hand and if you breastfeed - keep the boob close by.

It’s hard in the moment and then it’s all ok! Baby Tylenol, a warm bath and some topical arnica. I made sure to nurse a LOT like before and after and at home and we just cuddled and she napped. Really only about one day of fussiness. And she napped three hours after the visit. My normal sunny baby girl today! The risks are super low for a reaction. The benefits greatly outweigh it. Our grandparents were grateful to see protection for their babies from killer diseases and we have them to thank for the herd immunity we take for granted today. Many countries are not so lucky and thousands of babies die from preventable illness still

And to the women who made a big post about how she was also unsure and people should check to see if they are still immune to things. I don't know if you deleted your comment or if glow is just being stupid like it normally is. But you stated you where upset that you where no longer immune to hep B and your insurance won't pay for vaccines. If you work in a health department setting (Which you stated you did) and you live in America. OSHA requires companies to provide Hep B vaccines to employees. So, if your healthcare setting doesn't offer that, I would report them. And if they do, then you can take advantage and receive a Hep B vaccine with no charge. This information should be posted in a place where employees can see it, and it should have a number to call if guide lines are broken. You can always call anonymous.

My little one had hers yesterday and it was so much easier than I thought! As long as you have a good doctor and nurses it’s not bad at all three sticks and it’s over with. She was fussy for the night and today she’s been fine.

I thought getting all the vaccines at once was way too much. My boy was sore and cranky for a couple of days. My friend did half and went back a week later and did the other half. I would do it that way if I could do it over again. I’ll do that with his 4month vaccines.

I know it’s hard to imagine doing ANYTHING that hurts your baby. Even shots. But I’m the long run it would hurt baby so much more to get any of those illnesses than the pokes they get from the shots. Lots of cuddling, and Tylenol if needed and the next day they don’t even know what happened. My baby was back to her usual self. And she had 3 pokes and an oral solution.
