EMDR Therapy?

Question

Has anyone ever done EMDR therapy for sexual trauma? If yes, what was your experience like? Did it help at all? I want to ask my therapist about trying this but i’m not really sure what to expect.

I did. It’s very intense. It’s a weird experience like I don’t know how to describe it. If talking out loud about the assault is hard then it might be better. Be prepared as you’ll start thinking a lot about it and you’ll uncover things you didn’t know where there. Make sure you have a good support system after you’re done. My therapist personally checks in with me several times a day if we’ve had a rough session (that’s because I frequently have issues keeping myself safe) there’s a book she had me look into called “the body keeps the score” and there’s a chapter in there about emdr she says it explains it really well I haven’t read that far into the book. But it’s proven to be very effective. I suggest trying it. Give several sessions and see how you feel. Make sure you’re communicating with the therapist about how you’re feeling about the work. I’m not gonna lie the first several times I did it I ended up laughing so hard for no reason, I then later told her that it was complete and total bull shit and that it was stupid however she pushed me to continue and it has been pretty helpful.
