Thats a sign of a bad or new phlebotomist. They struggle to find the vein, and that can cause bruising. Ask for a butterfky needle. They are smaller.

Keep the bandage tight and secure (not restrictive) for at least 15-20 minutes after the blood draw and it’ll greatly help to reduce your bruising.

One of my friends gets like that... her routine now is lots of water, put pressure on for 5-10 minutes after the draw, and ice afterwards. It's helped her a lot. I'm pretty sure she also requests butterfly needless which are much smaller
