Was it a date?

So my best friend and I, he’s a guy, went into the city for my birthday. We got dinner at a ridiculously expensive yet delicious steak house, went ice skating on a pond, and then got cannolis. He also got me a present and a really nice card, which is an odd thing to do (he’s kind of awkward)

Everyone I have talked to says it was a date, but I don’t know if he thought it was. I don’t even know if I thought it was. I wouldn’t be terrible disappointed if it was a date (if you know what I mean) but would never ever want to ruin my friendship with him. I’m kinda torn
