My birth story with Isabel “Izzy” Mae
Alright ladies, buckle up...this was a wild ride. So my due date was 3/11 but she arrived on 3/6. So it all started on Sunday (3/3) when I went into labor and delivery because I wasn’t feeling well. Since about the 30 week mark, I had been being monitored closely for possible preeclampsia. After getting monitored for a while, the doc told me that my bps were high and there was no reason to keep me pregnant any longer and that it was time to induce.
I was checked first thing and my cervix was not dilated or effaced AT ALL! So first they started me off on cytotec for two doses. That brought me to 1cm with still no effacing. Next step, they gave me the 12 hour cervadil insert to hopefully help dilate me more. That brought me to 2cm and 50% effaced. Then I was given one more dose of cytotec and then they started me on pitocin Tuesday afternoon. After about 3 hours I was at 31/2cm and ready for my epidural. I felt great after getting it. A half hour later, I was gaining feeling back in my butt and vagina. The anesthesiologist was surprised but gave me a stronger dose. It help for a 1/2hr and then my pain increased significantly. This happened about three time and by this point the pain is unbearable! I’m checked at this point (midnight Tuesday) and I’m 5cm 90% effaced and that at this point I should dilate 1 cm an hour. Then of course the pain is awful so they decide to redo the epidural. It did absolutely nothing and then my contractions pain increased 10 fold. I have a high pain tolerance but at this point I’m holding my Husband and mother’s hands in agony with tears running down my face and convulsing in so much pain. I beg to see the doctor. He comes in (at about 9am Wednesday 3/6) and checked me to see that I’m only at 6cm and not progressing. He said we have two options: you can either do the same thing for a couple hours to see if things change or we can finish this and have a c-section right now. I practically fineished his sentence and was like c-section NOW. Because the epidural was not effective, I was given a spinal and once baby girl was born, I was put out for most of the the remaining surgery. Sure enough, she was sunny up and there was no way her head was making it through there! It has been a rough road but I’m soooo happy she’s here! Now after experiencing pain like that, anything else pails in comparison. Such as the recovery from this c-section.
So happy Izzy is here! This is a poor picture but it’s the only one I’ve had the chance to take in all the craziness.
