Mattress pad?

Hey y’all,
Is it necessary to buy mattress pad for crib mattress? Mattress is already waterproof. Is it necessary or is it more for comfort?

I have them because a mattress pad is easier to clean than the mattress itself. I even like to have a spare mattress pad for when the first is in the wash.

I say yes! You might not use them when they’re teeny tiny, but they definitely help make the cleaning process WAY easier. Anything from diaper blowouts, over-wetting diapers, vomit...just so much easier. I have two waterproof mattress covers that I always have one clean. Just this morning my two-year old woke up and soaked through her diaper. Easy just to take the cover right off.

Not for the first early months! I bought my baby a mattress pad that we put on when he was 10 months for more comfort!

Better to clean a mattress pad than the mattress. I see it as an added extra layer.

I say yes. Easy to remove it in the middle of the night rather than try to dry up and wipe down the mattress. I bought two.

I was going to buy a waterproof mattress pad but then read that it could increase the risk of cot death as is a suffocation risk for the baby..? A waterproof material is not breathable like a cotton sheet. 
I'm not sure what to do .?

Wouldn’t be without it. My daughter has made so many messes in her crib. It’s been a lifesaver because you can just throw it in the wash & your mattress is left clean and dry.
