Working mums here?

Question

Hi dears 
Most ppl I know don't work after giving birth. They have maternity leave for a year and then work max part time.
I am pregnant and my family members and friends are already asking me if I wanna work again after maternity leave. I feel like I studied so long and it would feel like a waste not working in my profession anymore. 
I am quite ashamed as a lot of ppl look at me like "what's wrong with you?". My cousin even asked me where the point is in getting a baby when I start working again because I want see it then. It's also not as if they have a lot of money. They just live far away on the countryside where living is cheaper.  
How do you handle these topics?
Anyone else with similar problems?

I don’t think that’s a topic here in the US. Unfortunately our max maternity leave for most moms is 12 weeks and then we are back at work. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to go back to work and that’s your decision. Tell whoever is giving you crap about it that unless they are the ones supporting your baby, they have no say.

In Canada we get a year of maternity leave (more or less if you choose). In my experience most women do go back to work, some don’t.  It depends on several circumstances usually the big ones being finances and daycare.

I think you shouldn't even worry about it yet! You can't know how you will feel about it until baby is here and you're living the day to day. If you get a year of maternity leave, I wouldn't even start thinking about it until your baby is 6 months old. Just tell people you don't know and that you'll decide later.
I don't have any personal experience for you as I am in the US and am going back to work at the end of this month when my baby is 12 weeks old. That's the max amount of time we get here and not working isn't an option for us right now since my husband is in grad school.

Honestly a year off sounds amazing! Here in the us the max is 12 weeks and that’s only for a select number of people. I would take sometime while on maternity leave and think about what you want before making a decision. I honestly feel like you don’t know until the baby is here and your experiencing first hand for yourself. Some people realize that they would prefer to go back to work and have their own money and other moms decide that they don’t want to leave their babies and cute losses with the job, either way it’s perfectly fine and it’s whatever suits you and baby best! For me personally I chose to stay home with baby because I knew I wanted a second one and it made the most sense to me to stay home and be with my son all the time before another baby also didn’t make sense to go back to work after being home when I knew I wanted another baby in the near future again itsall about personal choice and what’s best for your family!

I took a year off and when Connor was 10 months I regret going back. I can't manage my house when I work and I'm crabby and lack sleep because I work nights.. and plus my lovely boy wakes me up from 8.00am even if I've done a shift till 9pm the night before.
