Pediatrician Vent ..So disappointing UPDATES
UpdateS at the bottom....
My adorable daughter who is 3 months 1 week and definitely has a cold! For the past 2 days she has had the following:
A very congested nose - have to use saline and the nose frida quite a bit during day and night. We are also running g a cool mist humidifier 24/7 because of the dry air.
A low grade fever of 99.2-100.2 taken by temporal thermometer. Last night was slightly higher at 100.5.
She cries when you lay her down.
She is not eating as much as she was and gagging while eating, nor wetting as many diapers as she was but enough diapers.
I called the dr office and all they had available was a “walk-in” appointment at 130 pm today so I took it.... about 20 minutes later I got a call back asking again what her symptoms were and I explained everything, again. Also told them that her dad is sick with a bad head cold. I am also starting to feel yucky. Not the point.... Anyways I explain everything and how last night was bad and how she has trouble eating cause her nose is so stuffy. She tells me well “from what you’re telling me I think we’ll just monitor at this point. You can give her Tylenol and we can call back in the morning to see how she is. If she gets worse this evening you can take her to the ER or call the on call dr. “ (let me add their phones were not working this morning it took me forever to try to get a hold of them). I have never had any dr of any kind call me to cancel the appointment I just made. (Even a walk-in) Let alone an appointment for a sick 3 month old. I was shocked. I was very polite because in the back of my head I knew I’d call to find a new dr.
A little back story....She had an appointment in January we were concerned about the yellow in her eyes and on her skin. The dr didn’t even look saying he wasn’t concerned. We go again in February and saw a different dr in the practice who was so concerned about her eyes that she ordered another blood test for her and eventually she was diagnosed with breastmilk jaundice. Shes ok now but I knew I should have gone with my gut and taken her sooner somewhere else. Now I know that I can not trust this dr or the office. I am confused and a little appalled to be honest. I called my insurance company and they gave me a few more dr names. I looked them up and they have great reviews.
So not sure if they will take a new patient who is a 3 month old with a cold but I’m willing to try. Oh and this dr is within walking distance. Wish me luck as I search for a dr who actually cares not only about the patient (baby) but the whole family. At least there are options. I wanted this place to be awesome and I had great expectations for them... I don’t like to be disappointed. Just going to go with my mommy gut from now on.. sorry for the long post... if I remember I will update this post. Much love to all the mommas out there!! 💛🥰💛
UPDATE
*** I do realize there is not much they can do for a cold. I would have liked to take her in to rule out an ear infection and/or a sinus infection. This being my fourth child I am not new to the cold scene. All my other kids have had ear infections w/out fever and have had tubes placed, tonsils taken out and adenoids also removed. We have had RSV with a hospital stay as well as asthma and bronchitis, among others. I have done all suggested home remedies as I am aware that dr offices are germ infested. But in my 16 years as a mom i have never been called back to have the dr cancel an appointment- that is a new one for me. Also let me add that this is not the first or second or even third dr I have had for my children in these 16 years as a parent. As the healthcare and insurance in this country seems to decline so does the care, bedside manner and the doctors. I need a de who gives a sh*t !
****UPDATE****
So ladies the office called me this morning to check on my daughter at around 10:30am. They asked how she was which is pretty much the same. A little more congested and pulling at her right ear constantly. I explained everything and the woman on the phone said they would like to see her to rule out an ear infection and make sure it’s not in her chest. The appointment was for 4 pm. Not having a car we Uber ourselves there we are about 5 min from the office and they call to tell us they are again canceling because the dr has an emergency. Ok seriously!
I explain that I’m about to pull up to the office and they tell me I’m sorry I don’t know what to tell you. There is more than 1 dr there maybe make us wait and see one of them.. anyways I called the nurse that took care of me from the same center to explain what happened she said all of it was completely unacceptable especially calling back after an appointment was given to say it doesn’t sound too serious etc. Anyways she agreed that she would do the same and find a different office. So I have and will be calling tomorrow. Thanks ! 💛
