help me start talking to this guy?

there’s one guy who’s in my grade (we’re juniors) and i think he’s SO cute. i asked my guy friend to help me out and this was his response:

so i guess he’s ‘willing’ to hang out/gw me? im not really sure what that means but i was so happy thinking that i had a chance with him today.

the thing is—we have no classes and i see him literally three seconds as we pass in the hallway. i have him on snapchat and i we could hang out through mutual friends, but i need some advice on how to get to know him or talk to him because i’m not looking for a relationship but i do want to talk to him before anything happens. what should i do?

i’m also really shy and a little awkward, but i want to try and make this work. i was thinking snapping him and starting a convo, but idk what i would say 😫
