Am I being extra?

My baby shower is coming up, I nicely let people know that having my stomach touched and rubbed makes me very uncomfortable. So I requested to not have my stomach touched. A cousin who I barely know and hardly speak to told me I’m doing to much because I requested for people not to touch me. And also my dad (who I hardly know & who is coming) told me that I shouldn’t have a baby shower since I don’t feel comfortable with my stomach being touched.

I will never understand why people feel compelled to touch someone’s stomach while pregnant. The thought has never crossed my mind and I do not like my stomach touched by anyone but my husband. If you didn’t help make this baby and you’re not my doctor don’t touch my bump👌🏼👌🏼

It's one thing to not want anyone to touch you at all eg give you a hug, but it's  reasonable to not want your stomach touched and to set boundaries in a kind manner.  I don't see how that disqualifies you from having a shower lol.

You are not doing too much. I recently had my baby shower too and I let people know as well. No pregnant woman likes to have her belly touched. I don’t get why people find it so hard to understand that.

I am not a touchy person. Even when I’m not pregnant. I don’t like hugs, I don’t like being touched lol ever. Unless it’s my husband and daughter. I don’t understand why people feel entitled to touch a pregnant women’s belly. I would tell them they are more than welcome to not come 🤷🏻‍♀️ I have smacked people’s hands for touching me. I always ask other pregnant women before I touch their bellies, even if they’ve told me before it’s ok, I ask every time lol. I would expect the same respect for someone to at least ask me if it is ok to touch me. You are not being extra. That’s rude of them to say that.

I’m not sure why people think it’s okay to touch without asking first anyway. I’m one of those who is okay as long as you ask. And my husbands mother never asks and lingers, touching my stomach to her hearts content. I waited too long to address that it was an issue and that it made me uncomfortable. Now my honesty has caused conflict. 🤷🏻‍♀️
Don’t listen to them. You have every right to voice your feelings and not allow people to touch you if you aren’t comfortable with it. People seem to forget that even though you are housing a baby, it’s still your body. And some people really don’t like being touched, pregnant or not. I think it’s better that you went ahead and addressed it beforehand. 
Have your baby shower and your pregnancy, your way. Not everyone has to understand. Keep in mind this is a very special and personal experience for you. And in the end, the memories from this time will be yours to cherish.
