Preparing for baby, how many outfits?

I’m only 16 weeks pregnant but wanted to start buying onesies and clothes for baby. How many should I buy to start with? Also should I buy the most in the 0-3 months size? Can anyone give guidance on how many clothing items I should get and what you got/found most useful?

I tend to disagree with those that say shop as they grow. The last thing I’m going to want to do is go out shopping for clothes I’ll wish we already had. Plus half the fun is shopping! You’ll get a better idea the further along you get as to what size you’ll need to start with but I would buy a few basics in each size then buy what you like in whatever size. This is where shopping second hand comes in handy because it’s cheap and if you don’t wear it you don’t lose much on cost. Personally I would rather have more than less, especially because we don’t have a washer and dryer in our apartment.

Dont buy clothes until after your baby shower. I received a ton of hand me downs and tons of clothes at the baby shower. But I will say, go crazy on newborn size and 0 to 3 month zipper jammies. In one night my little guy went through 3 pairs of jams

I was prepared for the first year... I personally didnt buy much “cute” stuff for the newborn or 0-3 sizes. Before the umbilical cord falls off, you don’t really want them in tight onesies, so little shirts and pants worked well and even after that, the baby sleeps so much, and is therefore usually swaddled, having cute clothes is kind of pointless, even though it’s so tempting to buy tons of those cute little outfits. Instead I bought a few cute outfits for special occasions, but mostly invested in bigger sizes. Once they hit that 3 month mark they’re much more active and so cute in their little outfits and spend a lot more of their day awake. However, in my experience,  no matter what you actually register for, most people will buy you baby clothes for your showers. I had zero clothes on my registry and that’s still 90% of what we received at all four showers, because baby clothes are cute and cheap, so that’s what everyone wants to buy. If I had to do it again (or if my second child is the opposite sex), I’ll wait to buy clothes until after the showers to see what all I get and in what sizes, to further fill in the closet

I would say to buy a few but no more than maybe 5 in each age group because babies do grow quick. My mother-in-law and so many people bought over 50 outfits in 0-3 months and the baby couldn’t even wear half of that. #1 it’s a waste of money and #2 now you have to give the clothes away or hope that your next child could use them.

I’m in the same boat I totally want to be prepared but at the same time I don’t want to waste money!! I have one niece that was in 6 month clothes when she was 2 months and one niece that is still in 6-9 month clothes and she’s well over a year. If you’re doing a shower you will probably get lots of clothes at your shower anyways

I received soooo many clothes at my shower. But a lot of ppl did 3 and 6 months. I had one newborn sleeper! I would make sure you have sleepers for sure-esp the ones that cover their hands. My son hardly wore clothes though (July baby).

For my boy I should have only stocked up on 6+, he blew through newborn and 0-3. He was in 6 for a good two months and he’s 8 months now in 12month clothes. He’s a tall boy not a thick boy. I would say NB-3 maybe 10 outfits max, I ran out of PJ faster then I ever did clothes. I have been buying PJ like freaking crazy, don’t waist your money on the footed ones (if you can) cause once their toes his the bottom you have to size up. This of course is all my experience, I wish I didn’t waist so much money on sizes under 6mo.

My baby was in newborns for about 4 weeks. I would definitely get a couple zipper footed onesies and some gowns. No buttons! I would say at least 3 of each. It depends how good you are at keeping up with laundry. Get more if you feel you won't be able to wash at least once a day. You'll also want extra in your diaper bag. My baby is 8 weeks and she's in 0-3 month and some 3 month clothes. I have the majority in those sizes. I have about 6-10 footed onesies and I feel comfortable with that so far and I don't do laundry everyday. I also have maybe 10 cute going out outfits and so so many onesies and pants. I definitely have more than I need! She's mostly in the easy things I can put her in.

I wouldn’t buy very much , they grow so fast I would get a few 0-3 and a few 3-6 . I have a whole bag of 0-3 clothes my son didn’t even use because he was born big and they just grow so fast ! I shop as they grow .
