How to not tear after 3 births of all tearing??

Question

Ok, so I’m on my fourth pregnancy and I really want to prevent the tearing! I don’t know if it’s actually possible since I tear in the same spot every time. I’ve also had the epidural every time and am thinking about not getting the epidural this time since my labors are pretty quick. Anyone have any thoughts???
I am super nervous to get stitched up without the epidural....

Net getting the epidural can help, touching your baby’s head when she or he is crowning, using a mirror to watch your baby be born, pushing slowly while panting, and water births are all shown to help decrease risk or completely prevent tearing.

I gave birth without epidural, and the pain of the birth was so much that I didn't feel the stitches 😅

Skipping the epidural, perineal massage before and during labor, having a HCP properly support your perineum during pushing, and avoiding coached pushing or pushing too hard 🤷‍♀️ Some women’s tissue just likes to tear though

The only thing that’s been proven to help reduce tearing in your situation is to not get the epidural. Good luck though. I’m pregnant with number 2 and hoping I don’t tear as badly as with my son.

I had a natural birth with a small labia tear.  I don't remember feeling anything besides a little tugging during the stitching.  They gave me a shot to numb the area.

That’s all great advice! No water birth for me. I have a velamentous cord insertion and a huge bi-lobed placenta so I’m giving birth with doctors.

Hello. Not getting an epidural will really help reduce the likelihood. Perineal massage and making sure you’re relaxed during birth had also been shown to help. My hospital said that if you delivery the head slowly and with some help from a midwife, you are less likely to tear or at least not as bad but it can never be guaranteed. They will give you some anaesthetic if you do need stitches after though :) x
