I know it probably varies with drs and places but do they generally still do Amniocentesis? 
I just turned 35 and they have always scared me even tho I haven’t had one done. My son is 7 yrs old so was even talked to about having one done then. 
Just curious so I can prepare myself lol.

Usually they do a blood test (on you) after 10 weeks to check for unusual genetic results. Only if that comes back higher risk or if something else comes up later in the pregnancy would an amniocentesis be recommended.

Yes, they’re still considered the only true diagnostic procedure along with CVS. However, they don’t need to be routinely done before or age or any other factors (you’re still fairly young fertility wise anyway). They do other risk free non-invasive screening first in the form of a scan and blood test. These tests vary from being pretty accurate to almost completely accurate depending on the one you have and only if you come back with a high probability of something will they suggest performing an Amniocentesis or CVS so you don’t really need to worry too much as they’re not routine :) x

Amniocentesis isn’t “generally done” because its very evasive and carries a risk of miscarriage. If you’ve received positives to the preliminary genetic screening, your Dr should be the one recommending it, ultimately you’ll have the decision wether to have it done or not. If it were me, I’d chose to decline.

Only if your genetic screening comes back with a possible positive for something like downs for example. But even then you don’t HAVE to get it done it’s voluntary

Thanks y’all! That’s good to know. I always heard they are risky. I see a maternal fetal medicine in May for the blood tests so hopefully that will suffice.
