6th Grader going to another state with school?

Question

Okay so I’m a over worrier. My 11 year old (she will still be 11 when she goes into 6th grade) will be in 6th grade next year and has the opportunity to go to Washington DC next year with school( to put into perspective for any one who is curious) we are from Ohio. SoOo its a distance in my opinion. I’m so on the fence bc I would love her to go an get the experience and see all the sites they’ll be going to buuuut makes me super nervous ! 
Any thoughts ladies?

The kids here (Florida) go to DC in 5th grade. When I went in 5th we traveled by train but they go by plane now. My daughter went with her school last year, she was 10. She had an absolute blast and if my son makes safety patrol in 5th then he will go too. It’s a great experience for them and they learn so much.

Let her go she will be fine. And I'm sure you're allowed to chaperone if you really wanted to. But kids who don't get to go on trips get unnecessarily made fun of.

I can’t talk from a parents perspective because my only child is 6months old right now, but my younger sister went to DC with her school in middle school and we live in Florida. It was a little pricey but we knew she would have fun and she did have a great time. She kept in contact with us throughout her trip. I’d say let her go if she wants to, it’s an experience.

I went when I was a kid (same age) and I’m from Michigan. It was the coolest trip and still remember so much of it to this day. It’s an amazing opportunity for her!! You don’t want to regret not letting her go

When I was a kid, I went in 7th or 8th grade to DC and NYC with a big group of students. We were from MS. It was a great experience for a kid! I still have all those pictures and memories, and I’m 33 years old. If your child has the opportunity, I really recommend letting them go.

I went to Quebec City, Canada with my school when I was in the 8th grade 🤷🏻‍♀️ About 6 hours from my hometown. I grew up in Maine and went to Boston (3 hours away), NYC (6 hours), and DC (9.5 hours) often as well with my schools. My sisters both did as well. My parents never had issues with it.

My middle school (in Illinois) used to take 8th graders to France for the French club trip every spring. Now I think they go to Canada.

Let her go! It would be such a great experience. Just let her have a cell phone if she doesn’t have one (even if a cheap prepaid one) so you can talk to her every day. Tell her to be aware of her surroundings at all times so she doesn’t get distracted and stray away from the group.

When I was in school I always felt bad for the kids that didn’t get to go on the “fun” trips. They could go to like local ones but never went on trips to theme parks or further trips. Ultimately a few of them didn’t get to go on senior trip either. It’s such a good experience for them socially.
