First time cloth user! Help!

Hi! So , today while in buybuy baby , I impulsively bought an original BumGenius cloth diaper (pocket style). I’ve wanted to try one just to see how I like it. (My baby only poops about once every 2 or 3 days). I now realize it would probably be best if I tried a diaper that’s a shell and just an insert so I could just change the insert throughout the day if nothing gets on the shell. (Not sure what that’s called lol).

Can I use the insert that came with the BumGenius and just put it on the diaper like its a shell/ insert diaper and not in the pocket? Just to see how I like it etc.... idk what I’m doing ... 😂
