I almost hit a kid with my car

I was driving up the hill to my neighborhood when this unsupervised kid crosses the street with his scooter without looking. Luckily I slammed on my breaks on time. I wasn’t speeding or was on my phone. I just stopped and checked to see if his parents were nearby and he was alone and I let him cross the street. I’m feeling so so guilty and I should’ve rolled down my window to talk to him. I even went out for a walk to go near the area where it happened to find him to make sure he’s ok and all. How do I get over this? Am I being dramatic
