First Time 🙈 (tampon)

So this may be a little tmi.. but I am 16 and I have never had sex or used a tampon. I used a pocket pearl tampon thats really small. My period is normally light flow but its gotten slightly heavier. I chose what looked the least intimidating. Anyways.. is it supposed to be slightly uncomfortable? I used a mirror to see down there and its placed correctly. It just feels a little weird. Is this normal?
