Is a dress on a first date too much?

I’m in college and just got asked on a date for the first time. I want to look cute and have a nice casual dress that’s a little low cut but I don’t know if I should try and dress more casual like I do to classes.
I don’t want to come off at really extra.

Tbh I always made sure I didn’t wear a dress or skirt on first dates because I always thought the guy would get mixed signals and think I was wanting to have sex so I always wore jeans and a nice blouse but then again I’ve had a lot of sexual abuse growing up and guys were always very pushy with me so idk if he’s a nice respectful guy I’m sure it would be okay

I almost always wear dresses for dates, but that’s just my style. I rarely wear jeans out... only to work.
