Sushi while pregnant?

Would you eat sushi if it’s from a local place you’ve never had a problem with?

I ate some just the other day. Raw. I don’t follow a lot of the food “rules”. Cold sandwiches, runny yolk,soft serve ice cream.

I’m one of those weird pregnant ppl (with my first and now my second pregnancy) that I really just don’t follow the food restrictions because they’re so outdated. Some of them are just ridiculous lol. Using regular common sense on food safety is enough to be ok.

Curious about this. This is my second pregnancy and I’m feeling a little more “rebellious” to go against the rules this time around. Are we talking raw sushi or cooked sushi?

I read somewhere recently that now some experts are saying the benefits of sushi (even raw) outweigh the potential risks! I’ve eaten raw sushi a few times this pregnancy and am happy I did but stick to what you’re comfortable with!

First pregnancy I didnt touch ANYTHING that was even a slight recommendation to stay away from or have in moderation..... this pregnancy I’ve had caffeine, cold cuts and sushi. Everything still a-okay  👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

I read that most sushi grade fish in the US is frozen before being served. Apparently this is the only important thing to ask before eating it while pregnant. BUT you still want to avoid fish high on the food chain because of higher mercury levels, etc. It seems to be a personal choice- I’ve chanced it with both babies a couple times, but feel guilty & cant enjoy it- lol. Pregnancy does lower your immunity, so you’re more prone to e-coli, etc. That’s why they blanket advise against sushi while pregnant. I’m gonna eat so much once this baby arrives!!!

I would avoid raw fish but you can have vegetarian sushi, cucumber and avocado rolls, California rolls, teriyaki, tempora, anything cooked

We went out to sushi last week and told the waitress I was expecting - they were so accommodating and she suggested everything on the menu I could eat that was cooked/smoked. She even said they could prepare rolls differently to cook fish on rolls where normally it’s uncooked. Had the same satisfying enjoyment of the sushi, without any of the risk! Totally recommend asking them to see what they do special for you!
