Toddler dinner?

Question

Is 4 chicken nuggets and about a tablespoon of spinach enough for a toddler (just turned 2) to eat for dinner?
It seems like she eats more or less on random nights.  It just seemed like she ate less than normal tonight.  How much do your toddlers eat for dinner?

The best rule to follow is the my plate meal (new food pyramid) protein, healthy grain, fruit, veggie and a dairy. Exposes them to new things each meal and promotes healthy eating habits and portions. (Direct from my sister who is an RD). We follow it each meal and my daughter is a great eater!

They typically need around 1500 calories a day in the 1-3 yo range. Kids go through their days and sometimes can be very picky. Some days you just aren't as hungry 🤷🏼‍♀️. If you notice decreasing patterns in her appetite, it could be something to ask your doctor about, but as long as she eats something, I think she's okay 😊

Some days my kid eats like a bird (next to nothing), other days like a cow with four stomachs. It totally depends. I wouldn’t stress if that’s all your kid ate for dinner one day.

My 15 month old just ate a quarter of a chicken breast on a whole grain bun with about a tbs of beets and a tbs of peas. Some of it ended on the floor or in his bib but he is still gaining weight slowly so I assume it's enough. If your pediatrician is concerned about your LO's weight then you will know if it's enough or not. But if there are no concerns I wouldn't be worried.

At two my son once ate 4 eggs for breakfast, 2 hot dogs all the trimmings (god forbid it wasn't slathered in mustard) for lunch and 3 pieces of pizza for dinner. He'd eat like that and I'd wonder if he was going to secrete a cocoon. Then eat practically nothing for a few days. I wouldn't worry unless her weight is too low or high...

I don’t know my son is 20 months old and would need more than that but he’s a good eater and loves to eat he snacks a lot too

Some days my daughter eats a lot at dinner other days she barely takes more than a couple bites.

I would add something else in there. Fruit or something.  But if she doesn’t want to eat more than it’s fine.  There are days my son will not eat and others I don’t know where he put it all.  Like he will eat as much or more than my husband
