When should I tell my boss im pregnant

I am 5 weeks today and I work in a high school cafeteria which is fast pace and I'm always on my feet. I have already been feeling really tired at work so should I tell my boss? I feel like she notices that I'm slacking a bit.

Hello. To be honest I wouldn’t tell them any time soon. You’ll be more at risk of discrimination and there’s no need for them to know yet/you’re usually not obliged to inform your employer until your second trimester. Other than morning sickness, moving around is usually only a problem towards the end of pregnancy and not everyone has issues (I’m nearly 40 weeks and I’m still on my feet most of the day). It’s actually better for pregnant women to be on their feet more than not as it keeps them healthier and helps the baby adopt a good position before birth. I think unless you suffer from particularly severe morning sickness for some time or something like that, you will probably be fine and you might want to just try to see if there’s any way you can take a discrete break/rest a bit if/when you ever feel like you need to. Most women work until quite close to their birth though so you should be fine. Congrats! :) x

I told mine when I was maybe 15 weeks. No one believed me because I was still stick thin. I'm now 28 weeks and show though my apron now lol. Since I've told them my job has been made a little easier. I'm not constantly running to pick up heavy things, Instead I just call out for what I need and stay in one spot for the night. I can also take longer breaks and am down to closing one night a week.

Because I am a surgical technician I told my boss once I found out. But if it’s starting to have an affect on you I’d just tell your boss.
