Hcg test

I see many women doing hcg test getting numbers and I never heard of it until now. I was never told anything about that by my doctor. Are you doing that at home too or only in office? Is it free? What does tracking that do? How is it done? Is it necessary for everyone? I’m just very interested in it and would like to know all about it lol
