My boyfriends emotions

My boyfriend can’t show his emotions i can tell when he can be mad or happy. However when it came to us almost breaking up he said couldn’t cry, “I want to cry right now but I can’t”. I feel like it’s such a stereotypical thing of a guy to do. But it made me feel some type of way that he couldn’t cry because we almost broke up. I don’t know how to make him feel comfortable that he can. I’m definitely not gonna force him.

Also i feel like he was holding his emotions in maybe because while he was talking to me he was squeezing my hand kinda hard. Then when he was done talking he was taking deep breaths.
