Follicles

I took 7.5 mg of letrozole this cycle. I was ovulation testing with a digital kit and i got a high reading. My RE had me come in for an ultrasound and blood work. My estradiol and LH were high and on my right ovary I had 18-20 follicles under 10mm and on the left ovary I had 20+ follicles under 10mm. They told me ovulation would be soon, like 1-3 days. I kept testing, never got a peak. They suspected I ovulated, but my kit didnt catch it.

My questions are.. why did I have so many follicles. I had my amh tested and it was like 8.82. Does that affect it? And wouldnt I need larger follicles to ovulate? My RE doesnt even meet with me, i just see a nurse who tells me what the doctor says.
