Should I keep the middle name? HELP!

So i originally wanted my sons middle name to be Christopher. SO's middle name is Christopher.

The reason that I am not sure anymore is because SO's fathers FIRST name is Christopher but he is an alcoholic and was extremely abusive to his family when my SO was growing up. They have mended their relationship now. Based on what he's done to them in the past, i don't feel like he deserves to have the honor of his name being used.

If i were to use it, it would be honoring my SO, not his father. But i dont want his father to be like "oh wow thank you so much it means alot" when it's not really after him at all.

I said this to my SO and he was like, " well maybe we can just say it's after him"

Im making this into a dilemma because i really LOVED the middle name for our son!
