2nd pregnancy and brand new experience... and
I’m about 7.5 weeks and woke up covered in hives. Never happened in my 1st pregnancy (and nothing that I know of has changed - no new food, soap, etc). Called the OB and they said take Benadryl...it helped slightly. Some major hive hotspots calmed down and other new spots flared up. I understand that our bodies react to pregnancy by sometimes overreacting to pathogens. If it doesn’t get better by morning I’ll call the dr again. I’m wondering if anyone has experienced this during pregnancy, how long did it last, and what worked for you. Looking for some company in this itchy madness!
*Update 4/30: Thanks you all for your suggestions. The hives got way worse, unfortunately. Literally had them from my scalp to the bottom of my feet (ears, eyelids, etc included). I went to the GP and they confirmed I’m having a severe, systemic allergic reaction to something. And likely it’s something that doesn’t bother me at all when I’m not pregnant. They think I was just lucky with my first pregnancy. So I’m on a cocktail of “pregnancy-safe” antihistamines to calm down my skin. I’ve not slept very well for a few nights now, but none of that matters to me much. I’m most concerned about my baby, as I don’t like medicating during pregnancy. My first scan is this Thursday. Really praying all is well!
