Irregular period still after over a year of Birth Control

I've been on birth control for over a year now but I have had my period more than not. I get my period for more than a week but it's more like spotting for a week (or longer) but the first day or so is a full period. It will be gone for a week and then come back again! I haven't gone back to my doctor yet but am going to make an appointment, it's just hard because I work full time and my doctor's hours are the same as my work hours which is so inconvenient (and I'm procrastinating.....)

I keep on thinking that things are starting to regulate when it goes away for a couple weeks, but it always seems to happen again. Has anyone else experienced this? I take my pill very constantly and didn't get any other bad side effects, but this week my nipples have been extremely sore... I don't know why this has come on, it seems very random and out of sorts for me.

Can anyone relate?? Or have any advice other than going to see my doc which I am going to do soon.
