Cat owners I need your help

My cat has been recently going outside and getting into fights( he’s not neutered due to the fact that my first husband never wanted to get him neutered as we lived in a small place and he wouldn’t get out). My first husband passed away and I took the cat, so long story short, he’s been getting beaten up to the point where I have to take him to the vet cause he’s been getting holes on his face( we have his neutering scheduled now)Anyways what can I do for the time being? I can’t run after him cause I’m pregnant and I feel hopeless
