Too big?

Is the breast shield too big for my nipple? It hurts my nipple and areola during and after I pump. It doesn’t hurt at all when my son nurses. First time mom, so I’m just really needing help.

I use an oil based nipple cream when I pump. It helps a ton.

Could be that you’ve got the suction set too powerfully?
I had to experiment with my pump until I found out the best thing for me was to:
Have the suction power set to the lowest, but faster speed to trigger my let down.
Once the let down had started I increased the suction strength, but decreased speed to simulate what a baby would naturally do 😊
