Breastfeeding a newborn
I am at my wits end. I have tried every position, every pose, everything! Every time I try to position my baby to feed she opens her mouth but won’t latch onto me. I started to use a nipple shield since she wasn’t able to latch onto me. She started to try to latch with the nipple shield but every time I try to get started she’s flailing her arms and kicking so I’m struggling to keep the the shield on. Then she starts crying and getting frustrated with the situation. She won’t latch without the shield but I can’t hold her and the shield and get her to latch. On top of that I had to syringe feed her formula at the hospital because she wouldn’t eat from me and it had been hours upon hours so it was bottle of formula or syringe. I chose syringe to hopefully try to breastfeed anyways. Now she won’t even eat from me unless I squirt something in her mouth to get her to latch, while she’s screaming and moving around and kicking the shield and I’m trying so hard to get this to work. I don’t know what else to do. The lactation consultant at my hospital isn’t very good and wasn’t helpful at all. She just scolded me and made me feel bad. Does anyone have advice?
