When will you know if breast feeding is an option?

So, this may just seem like a stupid question but is there a way to check if you even have a milk supply?

My sister and mother didnt produce any milk and they didnt find out until after having their kids.

I'm 26 weeks and I was on the highest dosage of estrogen based birth control for almost 7 years before becoming pregnant and I was reading that that can hinder you from producing.
