Ectopic Pregnancy in C-section scar...

Lynn

I am 4 days post op from surgery to remove an ectopic pregnancy that was found to be developing in my C-section scar from my previous child. We had been TTC baby #2 for 18 months when we finally got pregnant! My fiancé and I were over the moon excited. One week later I started bleeding. I went to the hospital and they said it was too early to see anything on a ultrasound but based on my HCG levels and symptoms they were sure I was having a miscarriage. I tried to accept this fact and went back a week later to make sure my HCG levels were back down to normal. To everyone’s surprise they had more than quadrupled! The hospital basically said “oops I guess you’re fine” and just told me to keep following up with bloodwork. My numbers kept going up and the hospital no longer was concerned....but I still didn’t feel right. Three weeks later I got another ultrasound but they couldn’t see a baby yet but could see a sac they said it was because I was too early....I should have been 9 weeks that day. I knew that wasn’t normal and felt like they weren’t helping me get any answers on what was happening. I got an appointment for a second opinion at a different hospital three days later. I gave them all my blood results and ultrasound reports. They chose to do another ultrasound and i was praying for good news but the ultrasound tech immediately asked me “have you had a C section before” I said yes 5 years ago and she took a few more measurements. The doctor came in and told me this baby was growing (keyword baby, clearly seen on the ultrasound) growing in the scar from my c-section and causing bleeding. I had to have surgery immediately and they said it might have to include a hysterectomy to save my life. I was hysterical... I had never heard of this. What was happening....they basically performed a C-section on me to remove the pregnancy and thankfully qwere able to repair my uterus.

Im home now with my son and my fiancé and they are both taking excellent care of me. We are devastated and I don’t know how to carry on TTC now...if I can or if I want to.
