Is it bad to do this to your 5 month old?

Question

Ok, so I was just wondering if it was ok to teach my son
 • English
 • Spanish
 • Sign Language 
Of course I wouldn’t do it all at the same time but begun teaching him early in age on sign language like the basics first. I was thinking it’s better for him to know it now then later.
My cousin who is 17 has taken a class of sign language for over 4 years now so I would have her teach him the basics and later the more harder things...
Is this basically a good idea or bad idea? 
I’ll buy books that have both English and Spanish & Sign language books as well...
Please let me know if this is a good idea!!

It’s not good or bad... but you can’t expect a five month old to learn three languages. It’s literally not possible they can’t even speak one at this age. It makes no sense

No it’s not bad. It’s actually great. I do the same thing. English is primary but I teach her the little bit of ASL and Spanish that I know. Having two verbal langauges might delay her talking a little bit at first but in the long run, it’s much better to learn a second language before age 3. Research supports this!

I'm raising my son to be bilingual. When he was four months old my friend started watching him when I work. She only speaks Spanish to him. We speak English and I'll speak some Spanish to him. Hes almost 14 months old and saying words in both languages. I want to learn sign language myself

My nephew is deaf and I taught my daughters basic sign language but they never really used it since both started talking at around 6 months and I just didn’t bother to keep it going. I think it’s more beneficial for babies and kids who have trouble communicating or have a speech delay really. You want to encourage your little one to speak actual words. If they don’t talk by a certain age I definitely see the need for it.

I am talking to my son which is two months old in English and Turkish. Doctor said it is best to use the words from both of the languages since I’m Turkish.
I would suggest to beware of sign language. Our neighbors daughter has been learning English Spanish and sign language. She is two years two months old however she doesn’t want to speak in English or Spanish as much but use sign language still. She understands most of the things in English or Spanish and does it if it is asked to her. However she responds back with sign language because she knows that everybody understands her that way. So she’s being lazy about it.
I am debating about teaching sign language to my child because of that.

Teaching your child multiple languages is great!

It is easiest to learn multiple languages the younger you are. You just need to be patient and try to introduce the same words in each language at the same time. So, sign for drink while saying drink in English and Spanish.

No . But you’ll have to be consistent . My 11 and 8 year old know English sign and minor French. My son is almost 4 months and will know all 3 as well. We will work on primary language and sign first hen French. Sign is very easy for babies to catch on to! I actually have apps for sign and French. We speak with sign very often when we are out bc my second daughter is very passive with strangers.
