Ok, let me explain why I chose this title: it’s as close to fucked up as I could get to explaining the severity of this proposal. It’s in Kentucky, one of the most ass backwards states ever. Does it directly replicate the Handmaid’s Tale? Hell no, and that wasn’t the intent of the title. Just a reference.
The bill was proposed to mock male legislators who want to control women’s reproductive rights.
I’m worried it’ll get passed out of spite.

That’s never going to pass. It wasn’t written to be passed, and there’s no way the (majority male) legislators are going to get on board with that.
You should be worried about the attack on our reproductive rights, not this.

The Handmaid’s Tale was always written with the intent to somewhat mirror society at its darkest times. Yes, I feel like you’re supposed to read it and question whether it has the possibility of becoming a reality. 
Do I think that the USA is going to eventually end up classifying women into different coloured groups, to highlight their role in society - which is largely categorised by their ability to reproduce? No. Do I feel like women’s rights to their own body autonomy is under threat? Yes. 
I think that the important message of The Handmaid’s Tale, is that you’re not supposed to be complicit when the government infringes on your freedoms by convincing yourself “it will get better/this won’t last forever”.
